In May 2008, Codemasters acquired the license after the end of Sony's own Formula One video game series, developing by Ego engine.[2] They release each game in the series at an annual pace, one game per season, with the first game being available on Wii, PlayStation Portable and iOS in 2009. Feral Interactive and Sumo Digital were once responsible for platform transplantation. Subsequent sequels were released on contemporary Sony and Microsoft consoles and computers. Following the acquisition of Electronic Arts in 2021, F1 2019 and F1 2020 were available on EA Play, among with the Dirt series, the Grid series and the Project CARS series.[3]

F1 2009, the first video game by Codemasters, was announced in May 2008 after Codemasters secured the official Formula One video game licence. The game was developed by Sumo Digital and based on the 2009 Formula One World Championship season.[73] It was initially released on 16 November 2009 and available for Wii and PlayStation Portable platforms.[74]
Sony concluded their Formula One series with the releases of Formula One 06 on the PS2 and PSP and Formula One Championship Edition on the PlayStation 3. In 2008, Codemasters obtained the F1 license,[7] beginning their own Formula One video game series with annual installments for each season, starting with the 2009 season. The first game of the series, F1 2009, was released on the Wii, PlayStation Portable and iOS, with the Wii version supporting the Wii Wheel for motion-controlled steering. Subsequent annual sequels were released on non-Nintendo consoles and personal computers, with F1 2011 also being available on eighth-generation handhelds and F1 2016 also available as a paid mobile title on iOS and Android. Besides the Wii U port of the F1 Race Stars spin-off, subtitled Powered-Up Edition, no other Codemasters F1 game has been available on a Nintendo console.

Woods then became the face of the sport's flagship video game, inking a multi-year deal to lend his name and likeness to EA Sports' "PGA Tour" series. The first "Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf," released on PC and PlayStation 1 in 1998, helped establish EA Sports as the preeminent sports video game force across the world.
By 2002, the game had added an analog swing feature. The 2003 iteration of the game, widely seen as one of the greatest sports video games ever, thrust the series into a different stratosphere. Backed by the dulcet tones of DMX's iconic anthem, "Up In Here," the game was packed with immersive features. Game Face allowed gamers to craft each element of their character's likeness, from facial hair to the hat players wore on the course.

The early 2000s was a fantastic time period for the gaming F1 fan. While Sony was continuing with its series that had started in 1996, sports gaming powerhouse EA Sports joined the scene in 2000 with the imaginatively titled F1 2000. An exclusivity deal between FOM, FOCA and Sony from 2003 onwards meant that EA had to stop at the end of 2002. Rather than just end it there, EA Sports decided to create a new game, focussed on the seasons they had previously licensed. That meant that four seasons were now playable instead of just the one, something unheard of in previous F1 games. Not only would teams and drivers change across the years, but small adjustments were made to the tracks to provide a more authentic time progression feel, and gave F1 fans their first true taste of a Career Mode format, something later games would push further and further.
Having spent a decade making Formula 1 games, Codemasters started looking at ways they could expand their video game offerings while still remaining a fully licenced game. With Career Mode consistently being a firm fan favourite, the game added an unbelievably popular new category in 2019: Formula 2. In the past you started your career from one of the lower teams on the F1 grid, but now you would join one of the F2 teams for a (shortened) feeder series season before being offered slots in the main event. The team you chose affected who offered you a seat the following year. Do you go for one of the Junior Programmes such as Mercedes or Ferrari, thus opening up spots at Williams or Alfa Romeo respectively, or do you go without the programme and just prove your worth to all and sundry? It also tried to add a little drama by creating two fictional characters during your F2 season, who would also make the step up to F1 with you, signing for rival teams to add a little extra spice to your debut year.
Game developers have taken it upon themselves to recreate the rush of modern muscle cars and sports vehicles in a bid to make street racing a fun-filled fantasy for people of all ages. These racing games offer players an ultra-realistic simulation to put the pedal to the metal on tracks that can turn heads and push the limits of speed.
Riders Republic is an enthralling sports game developed by Ubisoft. Mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and wingsuit flying are the main activities in the game. The massively multiplayer game allows up to 64 players to compete against each other in mass races.

Perhaps the next generation of consoles will push the envelope a bit more on that end. As it is, Madden 23 is a gorgeous-looking football game from a player model and overall sports-setting standpoint.
EA Sports is a division of Electronic Arts that develops and publishes sports video games. Formerly a marketing gimmick of Electronic Arts, in which they tried to imitate real-life sports networks by calling themselves the "EA Sports Network" (EASN) with pictures or endorsements with real commentators such as John Madden, it soon grew up to become a sub-label on its own, releasing game series such as FIFA, NHL, NBA Live and Madden NFL.
In 2005, EA Sports and ESPN signed a massive 15-year deal for ESPN to be integrated into EA Sports video games from 2K Sports and Sega. EA's use of the ESPN license has steadily increased over the early life of the deal. EA's early usage of the ESPN license began with ESPN Radio and a sports ticker in titles like Madden NFL, NBA Live, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and NCAA Baseball and Football. The ESPN integration now includes streaming podcasts, text articles (including content only available previously to ESPN Insider subscribers), and ESPN Motion video (including such programs as Pardon the Interruption).
The head of EA Sports at that time, Peter Moore, cited piracy and the fact that the "PC as a platform for authentic, licensed, simulation sports games has declined radically in the past three years as the next generation consoles [...] have attracted millions of consumers."[2]]
In our review of Forza Motorsport 7, James calls it "so vast and all-encompassing that not only can I turn it into a stupid game about vans, I can also make it a game about conquering my van obsession and finally learning how to drive cool sports cars." It's one of the most all-encompassing vehicle-lovers sandboxes, capable of providing for those who just want to go fast in shiny metal cages, simulation die-hards, and everyone in-between.
It all begins with a note from your parents telling you to rebuild the junked car in your garage. From there you construct a driveable, moddable vehicle down to the most minute nuts and bolts, teaching you exactly what an exhaust manifold looks like and what happens when it rattles loose along a lakeside single lane road at 70mph. Car ownership has never felt more satisfying and personal in driving games than in this slightly janky but beautifully esoteric builder-meets-racer.
Autosport is Codemasters' easiest, most entry-level track racing game. The car handling is very forgiving, but with just enough fight in it to teach you the basics of corner-braking and throttle-control. Outside the car it does as deep as you're up for, though. It's got full-race weekends, typically strong opponent AI for Codemasters, and tons of variety in its racing formats. 2ff7e9595c
